10:30 pm
Eh…..Everyone,
After a long rainy night at Mountain Shadow Campground in Istuk, we were up and out by 7:30 this morning. Our drive from Istuk up to Dease Lake was a long narrow road with a lot of construction and gravel, brief stop in Dease Lake for our most expensive fuel which was $1.47 per liter ($5.68 gal). OUCH! Then from Dease Lake to Upper Liard Village which is the Alaskan Hwy 1 Junction, which Judy got the pleasure of driving was the worst 145 miles of narrow, winding, gravel road which took us about 4 ½ hours. During this drive at the Yukon Plateau (which was a major burn area) we notice all these cars parked and or camped along the road, which we thought was for hunting, but to our surprise they were all picking wild mushrooms in the forest. NO…we didn’t stop to buy any.
We now entered Alaskan Hwy 1, which was a great road and speed limit back to 100 km/ph and guess who gets to drive now….Buddy. We did our good deed for the day and stopped to help a guy from Washington who blew out his trailer tire and we had to drive him back to Teslin about 17 miles. The funny thing is that we meet up with this guy several times along the hwy before today. Buddy was thinking we were being stocked.
Now we are kickin back in our new lounge chairs by the open fire at the Marsh Lake , Government Campground ($12) and with luck and good roads we should make it to the Alaskan border tomorrow. Total Miles today 461 and 9 ½ hours on the road.
PS It’s 10:30 pm and the sun is still shinning. Nite all ;-)
