Day 5 con't Sunday July 10th
Part 2 - After a brief stop in Smithers at McD's for coffee and Internet service, we continued North on hwy 16 to the Seaward junction and connected to hwy 37 which will take us up to Watson Lake, Yukon Territory (YK), which we will meet the original Alaskan Hwy 1. The roads hear are beginning to get rougher and narrower with alot of one lane bridges, travel speeds have been reduced to 40-50 mph. One of our several awesome sites today was we spotted a BLACK BEAR on the banks of a river pulling in a 2-3 ft salmon. As Buddy slammed on the brakes to pull over to video and photo this we had to run back along the bridge a few hundred feet. Then we had a Bald Eagle fly right down in front of our truck to pick up prey in the street. I got a great picture of his backside. Then finally, at last, we spotted our FIRST MOOSE in a bog about a hundred yards off the hwy. He stood there looking right at us, as if he was posing for his picture. Then we found a wonderful campground in Iskut, B.C. with gorgeous views, a lake, Internet service (slow) and Hot Showers.....which we were overdue for. Buddy grilled up some fresh Sockeye Salmon just before the rain started. Mr. Hayman said that we will be roughing it in Provincial Campgrounds (State) with no services for the next few days. So, next time you hear from us we should be in Alaska. The days are very long up here, doesn't get dark until around 11:pm. PS This campground said no uploading pics due to limited service, but I will try a few to see if they come thru.
