Alaska Road Trip – Wed July 13, 2011

Up and out by 7:30 am this morning.  It was cold, damp and wet, but we were anxious to get on the road.  We are planning on driving to Tok, AK today only about 124 miles.  Haven’t seen any wildlife the last two days….were are they all.

We made it to the Canada/Alaskan border about 8:35 and had to turn our clocks back 1 hour.  As we were waiting in the customs line, a trucker next to us told us that he could hear air leaking from 1 of the trailer tires.  After we got through customs, we pull over to look and yes our tire was flat.  OK…this is Buddy’s job.  He got the spare on and we made it to Tok about 10:30 am.  Got the tire patch, hit a small store, the visitor’s center, souvenir stores and then to the Famous Sourdough Campground.  Got settled in, went and did laundry, took hot showers, grilled up some awesome rib eyes and then enjoyed a glass of Jim Beam & Diet Coke.   UMMMMMM.  We get to stay here for 2 nights.(Yippi)   Friday we will head through Fairbanks to Denali National Park .

Oh, we had special entertainment tonight at the campground.  We did the Sourdough Pancake Toss (no we didn’t win) and Danny Lee and his wife Sue Ann, who have traveled over 30,000 miles in last two years in their RV.  They sing mostly Johnny Cash music and do karaoke songs at campgrounds for free meals and camping.  It was very entertaining.
To date we’ve traveled 3,142 miles.  Having a FANTASTIC, AWESOME AND ADVENTURSOME TIME ON THE HIGHWAY!!!!!!!  No we haven’t killed each other yet.  ;-)
